Aimee Mullins - Double Amputee a Model, Athlete, Inspiration

 Hi,
My friends, today’s story is of Double Amputee a Model, Athlete, Inspiration Aimee Mullins.  Aimee Mullins has amazing athletic accomplishments, a successful modeling career, and has earned accolades as a motivational speaker. She was born with a medical condition that resulted in the amputation of both of her lower legs and has become one of the most prominent thinkers on the topic of prosthetic innovation.

Let me tell you more about her

Aimee Mullins is an American athlete, actress, and fashion model. Mullins was born with fibular hemimelia and, she was told she would never walk, and would likely spend the rest of her life using a wheelchair. In an attempt for an outside chance at independent mobility, doctors amputated both her legs below the knee on her first birthday. She was told by doctors that, she might never learn to walk but she proved that she can walk. With the help of prosthetic legs, she learned to walk and even learned to run fast. In her childhood, she spent her time in athletic activities like swimming, biking, softball and skiing always alongside normal kids.

After graduating high school with honors, Aimee was one of three students in the US chosen for a full academic scholarship from the Department of Defense, and at age 17 became the youngest person to hold a top-secret security clearance at the Pentagon. She worked there as an intelligence analyst during her summer breaks.

Mullins become the first amputee to compete on NCAA track team and was a star athlete at Georgetown. She went on to compete in 1996 Paralympics in Atlanta, setting three world records in the 100m, 200m and long jump. In 1999, Mullins was invited to model on the runway for designer Alexander McQueen on hand-carved wooden legs complete with six-inch heels. Mullins became the face of a L'Oreal campaign for True Match and was named as one People's 50 Most Beautiful People.

Mullins strives to be one of those people for others, traveling around the country giving inspirational speeches, encouraging everyone to harness perceived shortcomings as a springboard for achieving lofty dreams. She says, "Confidence is the sexiest thing a woman can have. It's much sexier than any body part.”
